The following poem was written January 30, 1996. I wrote it then like it was a prayer. Angel’s would-be mother and I had just parted. I thought that our dream of having a child named Angelica was fading fast. Four years later, March 2000, Angel was born. With a twin brother. We named him Gabriel. Also an angel.
To Angel.. yet unborn
You are precious…
A gift of beauty
and everything magical…
Yours shall be a smile that could still the storms,
eyes that shine like sunrise
and glow with colorful meanings
your mother, to you, yet would teach…
You shall bloom like a red rose
amidst a landscape of gray…
You shall mystify…
You shall redefine grace…
You shall breath wisdom to those who seek it,
and bring joy to those touched
by merely your shadow…
There’ll be charm in your strength
and courage beneath your sweetness…
You will love and love despite…
You will give and give all…
And in the world that constantly yields to what is,
you shall hold strong to what should be…
You are a child of wonder,
conceived in the mind,
borne by the heart,
birthed by the soul,
on a wishful evening while nestled
in your mother’s arms…
You are to be if you are to be…
Right now your colors are fading..
Your laughter is trailing off fast…
You’re floating slowly, farther away
into the dark…
But you shall never perish…
There is a light that shines undaunted,
holding your vision in sight…
Rise and be still…
This is the moment of your birth…
Henceforth, you shall inhabit the air
where wishes reside…
You shall be clothed by the wind
while at play with the stars…
You’ll be kept warm by my light…
You’ll be nourished by my dreams…
You shall draw life from the beating of my heart…
And in time you shall seize the torch,
hoist it in the air
and set fire to the dark clouds
that have twarthed your coming…
Then, the heavens will open up to free the sun…
And you shall ride a chariot of sunbeams
that will carry you to the ground…
Welcome, you, the heaven sent…
You are the guardian of destiny…
You are the keeper of my dreams…
You are Angelica, daughter of mine
For now I name you Hope.
On December 26, 2007, Angel was taken away and flown out of the country. Wrenched away from me who had cared for her all her life. Separated from her twin brother Gabo with no goodbyes. (Please see Angel’s Flight page / post)
I am starting this blog, again as a prayer. That one day soon, Angel is reunited with us and with the only life she had known since birth,
Please come and visit always. Yours will be one more prayer added to ours.

Hi Mayel,
Thank you for the kind words. I know your Dad has been writing poems to you since you were born. Maybe not on paper but in his heart.
Yes, Angel is Hope. And Hope is Angel. (naluha na naman ako)
Bless you, Mariel.

Angel of Light
Angel of light, Angel of might
Come and soothe my soul tonight.
Give me strength, and give me rest.
So I can be my very best.
I hope this poem will give you more strength and courage to make it through the days to come.
I pray for you with love and hope, that one day soon, your Angel will be home…
God Bless you and your little ones…

I’m much much luckier and blessed– having that poem come alive with the birth of Angel. Everytime I read this poem I cry, with joy and hope. As she came through amidst the dark clouds then, she will again– in God’s perfect time.
Thank you and God bless you too, rhosie.
